The Truth About Getting Fit at Home - when you search ‘home fitness’ in Google, there are billions of search results that come up, but how do you know what you are getting?

The BBC programme aired on Thursday night: CLICK HERE for the link to watch it on catch up. It was an interesting watch as we have all had to adopt a very different way of working out over the past 12 months.

As a fitness professional I have seen a plethora of adult dance and fitness classes launch on every conceivable platform, both paid and free but my worry is - how safe are they?  Anyone can record themselves and post a video but without the knowledge that the trainer has the necessary qualifications and insurances to teach we have to be even more careful as to what exercise we decide to do. So, my message is: be careful and check out the credentials of the trainer.

The Government puts strength and aerobic exercise at the heart of its advice.  Strength training is key for building strong muscles to enable everyday activities and increased muscle mass lowers risk of heart disease and diabetes and helps us live longer.  Muscles better control your ability to control sugar levels: we burn more calories the more muscle we have - so we can burn calories just sitting down!

As we are now working out at home, a lot of us don’t have the equipment that we have in the gym but your own bodyweight can provide you with all the resistance that you need!  The BBC show reiterated that a HIIT workout helps burn fat and control blood sugar levels by working the heart AND results can be evident within 4 weeks in improving cardio fitness:

HIIT with me is every Saturday @ 10.30-11.15am

If you want something gentler and to compliment your cardio fitness, there is evidence that yoga can reduce blood pressure:

Yogalates with me is every Tuesday @ 6pm

According to the presenter of The Truth About….Mehreen Baig, Booty Butt is the new craze!  She said that she does a class almost every day!  Obviously a workout programme that incorporates cardio, strength and stretch training is the best for our bodies and overall health - I’m told that my Booty Class is the hardest of the week!

Booty Butt Blast with me is every Tuesday @ 8.30am

BUT

at the root of all this, a balanced diet, plenty of water and sleep is crucial for overall wellbeing and fitness.

Hope to see you online soon!!!
