Fab over 40+!
Exercise over 40…
As we all know there is ALOT out there in terms of online exercise and fitness classes both free and paid from all sorts of sources. Having read a great deal of press recently about online fitness it seems that the 20 somethings and our children seem to be getting all the attention! Whilst these groups are important - so are we!!
I will be turning 50 in July of this year. A fact that I am both proud and horrified about! I am lucky to teach a fantastic group of women around my age and they are the most inspirational bunch of people I know. I don’t think that we over 40’s are getting the recognition that we deserve for being awesome! We have careers, kids, partners, homes, parents and all sorts of other responsibilities AND we are trying to keep ourselves fit and healthy - it’s a juggle!
Starting an exercise plan can always be put off for many reasons, but it’s so important to keep active especially to those of us of a ‘certain age’ to keep us mobile and to help our bone density and muscle mass. Whether it’s a stretch class, pilates, dance (check out this little Flashdance routine recorded in December…) kettlebells or boxing, we need to find what works for us as everyone is different.
Us gals should be aiming for the following:
Moderate aerobic activity for a minimum of 30 minutes daily
Muscle strengthening with all major muscle groups three days a week
Balance exercises two days a week at minimum
Check out the NHS Live Well website for more info.
IT’S NEVER TOO LATE!
